If Aperture does not not crash on a new library, reinstalling will not help. If Aperture is crashing on a new library, post the first fifty lines of the crash log. User profile for user: LarryJay Question: Q: reinstall aperture 3. Ask a question Reset. Much appreciated. When I go to import new images, there is a section that allows me to import from the camera or append my own info for a wide range of IPTC fields, including a caption.

Lightroom thread. I just wanted to help sports photographers figure out the program as related to their workflow. It does many things that will help sports photographers get photos out the door on deadline very efficiently.

Downloading the trial version is good advice. There are two thing with regard to IPTC. The IPTC will only be in the image's file info when it's exported. However, there's a new feature in Aperture 3 that allows the user to embed the IPTC in the Masters residing on the hard drive. This is relevant only with regard to a "referenced" library. This is a helpful feature, because if you want to archive just the masters, you want to have the IPTC live with those master forever.

It's also helpful if you have to burn DVDs of the masters. I hope that clarifies your question, if not Kirby Yau , Photographer, Assistant. That answered it. I don't ever export and send master files so did not really think about the fact that the info is not actually hard written into the master.

Thanks for providing the detailed explanation. PS The library rebuild suggestion you provided me worked wonders on improving my overall performance. Thanks for the help. Aperture's new feature set is very impressive. I tried both back in vers 1 days and decided on LR. At the time, the killers were the lack of xmp support in Aperture and the fact that Aperture was painfully slow on my MacBook and really needed higher end computers. It sounds as though Apple has addressed those issues.

It might be time for me to giver Aperture a second look. Scott Serio , Photo Editor, Photographer. I love the Uberupload version. Paul Gallaher , Photographer. It works fine, but it will only currently run in bit. If you are in bit, Aperture 3 will have to restart in bit when you export via the FTP plugin.

The same goes for PhotoShelter's upload plugin. I wanted to provide an update to hopefully keep others from running into the troubles I have. I ordered the upgrade version and received it a couple of days ago.

I started the upgrade and after the software install it prompts you that it needs to upgrade your library to get started. As I began this process I immediately ran into an error that said I did not have enough disk space to do this. I did not have the disk space because my Aperture library was taking up too much of my internal HD but since the install software had written over the previous version, I was not able to go back into my library and move files out of that library to an external drive so I was stuck.

Here is where it gets fun. I tried to delete Aperture 3 so I could go back and reinstall Aperture 2 in order to clean things up and try again however that did not work. The reinstall fails and when yo go into custom install options it does not even give you an option to reinstall a previous version.

After two days of soliciting help from the Apple boards, it now appears that even if you totally clean out everything Aperture related, that it still will not allow the install of an earlier version to work. The only possible solution offered at this point is to clean everything out and reinstall from a Time Machine copy, which I also can't do since when I tried to implement TM it led to a week of constantly crashing my machine and the only solution that was ever found that fixed it was to no longer use TM.

So now I have no version of Aperture on my computer and have no idea what it is going to take to get it to fixed. Here are a couple of links to threads on their boards about this problem and several others people are experiencing trying to upgrade.

I want very much for this to work because I am a big fan of Aperture but right now I am totally at a loss for how an upgrade can go so terribly wrong. I also know that if I see Jimmy Fallon anytime soon I am punching him in the face. This kind of crap is something I would expect from a PC. I have had library issues before. Add in that I keep different elements of my "library" on different external hard drives.

Who thinks I am doomed and maybe I should wait for the first update? I haven't noticed much difference between the two modes honestly. Plus, Uberupload will probably come out with a new version soon. I don't this for sure, but it stands to reason. Fear not, about the library upgrade, but it's important to read the release notes and follow the directions. Peyton Williams , Photographer. My impression of Aperture is that it is not cut out for sports photographers, but I could be wrong.

Some things have concerned me: I have a constant inflow and outflow of photos; photos will stay on my computer's hard drive for maybe 2 weeks before being put on an external drive some going to Photoshelter. Shooting in RAW adds up quickly. I might shoot 20 GB in a weekend. I'll have to delete the bad ones, then caption all the photos. Aperture impresses me of being like iPhoto: Keeping all of these files in a library that would quickly overwhelm my computer's HD.

The photos can't be captioned the same either; captions depend on what athlete is in them. For that, I depend heavily on Photo Mechanic's code replacement. Is there a like function in Aperture? Am I going to trust them for other things? PS: I had to "cut" my previous comment, as it exceeded the limit of characters Hi Carlo, The point about the Aperture Library isn't that it should be cleaned out, but specifically if it's been cleaned out e.

After this the upgrade has reportedly gone smoothly for these users. However, if you're having problems with a brand new library, then the issue is something else. I'm no where near technical enough to comment on memory leakage and why switching off the more powerful graphics card makes things better; it may be a driver issue for the card or maybe your RAM might be faulty?

I'm guessing though you would have noticed problems if you use other resource hungry power programs. I think writing feedback to Apple is a fantastic idea, even if you don't get personal replies.

All this feedback definitely helps, I'm sure. Why don't you try exporting the project you need to edit to Faby's computer and see how you get on? Do let me know and definitely feedback to Apple too.

Hi Edmond! The test I am going to do tonight, once at home, is to export a project and trying to export the jpeg from Faby's computer. As for the technicalities I really hope Apple will fix this, also because the number of people unhappy with the way they are managing this situation is growing hour after hour I feel that they are serving a juicy number of angry customers to Lightroom or other competitors Thanks and I will definitely keep you posted and catch up soon!

This memory leak is actually easily fixed. It has to do with upgrading from 2 to 3. To do it fully download AppZapper, and use the trial of it to remove every item aperture3 installs. Then reinstall Warning: it will now require both your A3 serial and your original A2 serial.

Once this is done your memory leak should be fixed and it wont fill up RAM and Virtual memory anymore and crash it. Hi John, Unfortunately that was a test I already did early, but it did not fix anything.

Luckily Aperture 3. Carlo, I'm glad to hear that the issues you were experiencing are now fixed. Great news I have a MacBook Pro 2. But I havnt figure out like how to take of the auto correct evertime i put a image in it loads its own settings and ruins my lighting.. David, I'd suggest shutting down the other programs if you don't need them there and then when processing and letting Aperture use as much of the RAM and CPU as possible. I haven't tried this, so I may be wrong, so give it a try if you have five minutes: You can change the RAW fine-tuning, so set these up as you like them and then save it as a camera pre-set.

I think this will then automatically apply to the camera in question and will process the RAW file to your liking. You can use the sort field just above the film strip when you choose to view a preview and teh film strip.

Set this to date and it will show chronology. This Blog Has Moved. No doubt most Mac users have been trying out Aperture 3. On Twitter and some forums , there has been the occasional users who have upgraded to version 3 reporting slower performance to what they expected. The majority of what I've read though is reporting faster performance, which is something I totally agree with. I have two tips to help out those who may be experiencing slow systems; before that though, you should ideally upgrade to 4Gb of RAM.

Being a bit program it can manage extra RAM extremely well, so the more loaded your system, the more obvious speed gains you will see.
